Vista Sucks

So I installed the latest and greatest from Microsoft, the most recent developer's build of Windows Vista (to be released this year, so they claim). It sucks. If you took windows xp you currently have, added some fancy transparency and shadows (that linux users and mac users could enjoy for a while now and also requires accelerated video hardware to not suck) and then add faster searching ability (that only works on your home folder, we even told it specifically to allow searching of other folders, and it failed to find anything in them) you'll pretty much get windows vista. Only thing I did like was that whenever I ran an installer for some application, I got pop-up notices from windows alerting me to the installer's attempt at adding itself to the list of thigns to run on start-up and whatnot. Now the average windows user wouldn't know what the heck it meant, but those of us who know what it means know that being able to tell it not to let it add itself to the startup list while you're installing the software is a happy thing. I didn't test any games other than the fancy version of minesweeper, hearts, and spider solitare packaged with Vista, so I'm not sure how annoying the extra security settings would be when trying to play popular games ( kind of like xp installs using Norton's internet security that makes people want to punch through walls).

So don't buy it. Unless you have to. Or you'll cry later.

So now that I had all the fun (or lack of fun) I wanted with windows vista, I then proceeded to get it the heck off my system. This meant booting back into my wonderful gentoo linux installl and telling it to promptly write random data (which would probably function better as an operating system than windows) all over the hard drive that vista was installed on. Hours later, the 45G's I had given to vista to play with was completely overwritten, with no vista remaining. :)

Agreed! VISTA sucks, I'd much prefer a AppleMac.

Thay've taken 5 years to make this OS and as you point out there is hardly anything under the skin that appears to have changed.

I hate people who say shit like this: "Ow its heaps more secure because they've taken a lot of stuff out of kernel and put it in the user space"

BULLSHIT - Vista is another Windows ME, it will hacked and hacked to pieces!

You can even fuck Vista up by simply talking to it:

Seriously Microsoft I'd rather rub broken glass in my eyes than continue to develop on your platform!

They Just dropped a two ton brick on top of my Vista Capable Dell XPS M1210. When I closly examined the brick I notice the Words "WINDOWS VISTA" engraved on it. This operating system is too big for any pc to run I have a top of the line system and at times this OS completly freezes. I know it's just the RC2 stage but how much better can they make it... They need to put this damn OS on a Diet... I guessing Bill Gates figures since most Americans are overweight their OS should be too. Vista is a Ram Guzzling, Hard Drive thrashing, CPU over utilzing Whore. All the aesthetics for nothing it's like having America's next top model as your wife yeah she looks good but she's still good for nuthing exept proably spending your money. and by the way it doesn't even look all that great I can download a windows vista theme and run it on XP and it would do the same damn thing. With out all the damn resource hogging. Yeah MICROSOFT is on the Decline.. XP is as good as it gets I think they should just scrap the whole legacy crap and start from scratch like MAC did with OSX. The programmers over at MiCrosoft are getting extremely lazy. It's like that closet in your house that you keep stuffing things into eventually it's gonna explode. They need to clean out the closet and reorganize it. Vista Sucks with the exception of some cool new features that MAC already thought off a while ago this OS is a waste of time and money. Most of the time I am staring at a black screen waitng for watever the os is doing to stop. The task manager is useless... even if your CPU is running at 100 it still doesn't give no indication which application is doing it. I am swapping my pc for a mac and Running XP on a dual boot system... Forget about Microsoft it's time is done!!!!!

Yeah I echo both your sentiments exactly. XP is as good as Microsoft can make without starting from scratch like apple going to free bsd for osx. One of the employees here installed vista rc1 on his brand spanking new laptop and it totally destroyed it. The laptop would boot up, but it was so unstable it crashed no matter what you tried to do with it. Vista is total crap! Open source operating systems will eat microsoft alive if they don't make major changes pretty soon.

Just installed the MSDN release of Vista Business.. It SUCKS bigtime.

Some true reality aspects of problem areas..

- Print server support through Win2K fails

- Cisco VPN does not work

- Very little hardware support for Intel based motherboards / drivers. Try finding Vista drivers on Intels web site

- Remote Desktop sucks - asks you for credentials that dont work everytime you attempt to connect to a Win2K Term Server

- Have a 10GB partion for the OS, which ran itself out of space about 4 minutes after the installation completed. Moved the swap file and every aspect of logging that I could find.

Other than shit that they copied from what MAC had ten years ago !!!!! this is a waste of time..

GO F#@%^$^#& yourselves Microsoft !!!!

Too true. I haven't tried Windows Vista yet, but I have been using Mac OS X since it was out in Beta form. Even with beta copies of Linux you get a far more polished product than what Microsoft can put out. I just don't understand how such a massive software company like Microsoft can create such an abomination like Windows when their R & D budget is enough to pay off the national dept in many underdeveloped nations. They spent over a billion dollars developing Windows Vista. What happened? They are still playing catch up with Linux and OS X. I say if you want cheap computing, get into Linux and gain control over your desktop, if you like a machine with great software support and ease of use, buy a Mac. If your job requires Windows, well then I guess you are shit out of luck...

So, ladies and gents. I could really crap out a better OS than Microsoft has taken six years to conjure up here. There are a number of issues, and lets begin with the under-the-hood; the real geeky stuff. Vista is a heavily modified and patched up version of Windows Server 2003, which itself was a patchup of Windows 2000 Server, and that can trace it's roots back to (get read for this) Windows NT 4, last seen in production in 1998-1999. Yeah, an 8 year old base kernel. Thats trouble right there. It doesnt matter how many times you re-write the rusty hunk of shit, it's still going to have remnants of 32 bit code, various errors and extraneous resource-hogging crap that the majority of users do not need.

Better yet, on the hardware level, Vista wants 10-15Gb of drive space, and reccomends 1Gb of memory. Think about that for a second. Thats almost a quarter of your hard drive if you own an 80Gb HD (which the majority of middle of the road machines shipped with in the past years). By comparison, Windows 95 consumed 120-190Mb, and at the time, the big hard drives were 1.2 and 2.1Gb. You need to use your computer for more than just the OS. Computer manufacturers are going to reap a fortune on reccomending upgrades to 1Gb on machines that don't come standard on it, but of course, ship with Vista pre-installed, whether you want it or not. And the deal with needing high-end graphics cards for just the UI? Mac OS X has been able to do everything Vista can do for years, using graphics accelerator hardware from 2002 (GeForce 2 or 3? ATI Radeon 7800?), and yes, that includes transparency. So where is all this power going? It's not like we're trying to render a Pixar production. The best part of all, however, is the USB flash drive used as extra memory function. You better bolt that mutha to the case before a cat knocks it out of your computer, a baby tries to eat it, or you inadvertently knock it out yourself and lose all your information. It also introduces two separate memory access speeds (internal and external RAM) which will get confusing, and slow the machine down with intensive tasks more than it speeds it up.

I saved the best for last, UAC. Seriously, if this is supposed to bring Vista to the same security level as Mac OS or Linux, they must have been toying with one of Linus' prototype builds, or maybe Mac OS 7.5.5. In Mac OS anyways, to authenticate, you need a password. In Vista, logged in as the Administrator, it's not necessary. So a computer on screen saver that doesnt have a screen saver lock and is logged in as admin is just as vulnerable as it was before. You can change anything you want and install anything you please, and all you have to say is "Okay". Even if you're logged in as Root in the terminal and have Admin access as a Mac OS user, you need to authenticate system changes and installations by supplying your password.

Useless, Microsoft. I hope Apple eats your home market share. Swiftly. I sure as hell won't be upgrading my parent's XP machine to Vista.

Im a die hard linux user and have been for years. I have a copy of Vista and its the biggest piece of shit i have ever seen. Im not just saying that because i know LINUX is far better, it really does suck. Be forewarned, anyone who installs this OS better have at least 2 GB DDR and 100 GB HDD. Vista is like a 300 lb brain dead sloth stumbling through your hardware. I have installed it on several machines and it doesnt even run 1/4 as well as XP, let alone any LINUX distro or MAC OS. I think they have just stretched their tired old kernel to the breaking point with this useless beast.

Anonymous said...

Now, guys. I had installed one of those "beta" versions of the thing and it didn't quite work. Now, I just bought the "real" product, here in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and, guess what, I simply cannot install the OS. My powerfull Toshiba will not read the DVD which, besides, is sold here in a 32 bits version. I'm a Mac user but, le'me tell you, I like to suffer (masochist, that's the word). A friend of mine says Microsoft does it on purpose because we Mexicans are supposed to be pirates ( you have to call them to have things fixed and show you're a real costumer). It just sucks, in my opinion.

Hello, I am from Holland, Netherlands, I am using Linux SuSE for several years now.

The latest Windows version I am using, just for test purposes (because I make wesbites) is Win 2000 (Win2k).

Any Windows version after that appears to be exponentially sucking. I have thrown away XP, I have thrown away Vista, and I will throw away any other next Windows version, even if I get heavily paid to use Windows hah!

Because I love to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, I'd be forced to install XP or Vista. But I will not. So I keep running old versions of the Flight Sim.

"New" does not necessarily mean "better". Microsoft is well on the way to sink into the mud of their own useless gimmicks of userunfriendly system hostilities.

I pity those millions of households who think they h-a-v-e t-o install Vista otherwise "the pc won't run". Countless people I am talking to remain blinded towards Microsoft violation of PC Rights (Human Rights, ..., got it?)

I just installed my copy of Vista (FEB 3, 2007) over XP Pro, and I can already tell you, it SUCKS. It is the biggest piece of crap OS that I have EVER been presented with. I would rather go back to DOS than keep that POS on my PC. I have a P4 2.66Ghz with 1GB RAM that runs beautifully in XP (at least as can be expected with Microsoft). I can watch videos, use Hotmail on Outlook express, and even multitask without difficulty. Watching a video only uses up 33% of my processor leaving plenty for other things.

Vista, however, decides to eat up ALL of the processor power, 100%, for 100% of the time while playing the same video, and the video playback is so bumpy from the start that it is unwatchable. I feel like I am having a seizure. The new Mail program does not support web based mail. Installing and deleting anything requires MULTIPLE acknowledgements, and don't even THINK of deleting any of Vista's programs. It won't let you. I tried to delete Mail and replace it with Outlook Express - even when removing "READ ONLY" attributes from Vista, or loading from XP, the files would just NOT erase. I am glad I used a separate drive for that crap. I can now just format the drive.

My old BASIC teacher (Mr. Apfel) once scolded me for making a simple program four pages long. He said, if it doesn't fit on ONE page, I don't want it. It took me one additional hour to condense it and remove all the crap I didn't need. It DID fit on one page, and worked just as well. I wish he was in charge of Windows. It would still fit on one floppy, and do twice as much with half the resources.

I just got my copy of windows Vista Home Premium for free from dell. I can tell you it is the biggest piece of shit I have seen in years. The shiny sparkly windows may seem nice, But its not worth the constant non responsive lockups, and resource hogging shit. I know its not my system that is making it lag, Because I have a top of the line rig. I will maybe see Vista on my computer again in maybe a few years, not until they get their shit together. I could shit out somthing better then Windows Vista, how the hell would it take them 6 years to develop sparkly shiny windows?

I will format the hard drive I installed windows vista on and then slap this shit straight on ebay. Hopefully make some money before people find out how shitty this is.

Sorry M$ you fail this time.

Buy a Mac with OS 10.4.6 or wait until 10.5 (Leopard) comes out. I have purhcased 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4. No problems with running the new OS.

The problem is that MS produces mediocre software that is buggy and not very concise. I hate MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel and will not run any Windows software (maybe only to play games).

Vista SUX! I just got a new Compaq because my old box bit the dust and it's like going back to a 286 it's so slow! Next time it;s going to be a Mac no matter what the price difference.

I just bought a new Dell with a 1.73 GHz Intel Core Duo processor and an 128 megabyte ATI 1300 graphics card thinking this would be more than enough to run Vista and my online gaming. WRONG. Sucks up RAM just looking at the fancy desktop. Purely aesthetic and from what I hear, this is nothing new.
GAMERS BEWARE.

Loaded Vista last weekend and I agree, it sucks. I cannot believe that this product is the one delivered amidst so much anticipation. Microsoft cannot even copy things properly.

Vista Sucks!! I bought a new pc with Vista, thinking I would have top of the line. I am so alone with this shit. I cant connect a printer without installing drivers that I have installed 4 times, and still cant print!! It wont open wordpad docs in english, they are in "Vista" I guess?? It is not compatible with anything. What f@cking good is it? My broadband service provider has to be called once a week because my connection keeps getting "lost". The pc freezes up frequently and closes internet explorer. I want to return this and plug in my old windows 98, yes, I prefer windows 98 over Vista!!

This blog post is over a year old, do you people just search for the word vista in a blog post or something? I do own a mac, if you read any of my other posts you'd see that. And my thoughts on Vista sucking was the old beta of Vista, not the current production model which may or may not still suck.

Anonymous said...

Just got my new Vista Dell yesterday. So disappointing. Hangs constantly. Five years to build something that doesn't work at all??

Thank you everyone for confirming my experiences...Vista has definitely failed to meet my expectations. I bought it pre-installed on a brand new Vista ready HP DV6000 laptop with 2GB ram.

It took 45 minutes just to run the "first boot" preparation stuff. And even now my XP laptop boots twice, if not 3 times, as fast as Vista.

Apple commercials hit it dead on...especially the one with the secret service agent that requires PC to acknowledge/deny every little event. I'm into security, so I definitely appreciate this. But even I am a little perturbed by the tweaking that needs to be done just to get a Vividas streaming video to play in IE. For the casual user, forget it, unusable.

Coming out of standby, the re-connection to my wireless net is totally unreliable (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but my linux machine stays connected, rock solid). Then it took about 5 minutes to shutdown the other day, hmmm, didn't Windows 95/98 have a shutdown bug??? True, I feel like all I've gotten with this OS is a couple transparent windows (oooh...aaahhhhh...) and a shuffling around of control panel, start menu, and a couple pretty pictures for a background. Oh, wait that clock is pretty cool...but then again that coolness wore off back in 1998 when I had xclock running on my linux box.

Sorry MS, I would have considered running XP on the new laptop, but I feel a little ripped off. I think I'm going to talk to Mac...

Anonymous said...

All I can say is yes, Yes, YES...it truly does suck. I love watching it try to copy files to networked drives (over my VPN)...10 .asp files take about 5 minutes!!! What a joke.

And for those that have ever said "WOW" to it...are you kidding me??? The look and feel of Vista is just disgusting. You would think that w/all of MS's money they could at least buy off some GUI designers from Apple that at least know how to make something look good. What a joke!

Funny, my piddly little Mac-Mini is much more powerful than my (formally) powerful PC.

I'm with others...Vista is another WindowsME!!

WINDOWS VISTA IS A NIGHTMARE!

NEWER ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER!

TRUST ME WHEN I SAY I REALLY KNOW MY WAY AROUND A COMPUTER.

USING 2 OF THE EXACT SAME BRAND NEW GATEWAY LAPTOPS FOR MY BUSINESS - (BOTH WITH IDENTICAL SPECS) ONE WITH WINDOWS AND THE OTHER VISTA, THE VISTA HAS MAJOR UNACCEPTABLE SOUND ISSUES, COMPATIBILITY PROBLEMS AND MANY OTHER ISSUES THAT THE WINDOWS XP LATOP DIDN'T.

VISTA IS A MAJOR SYSTEM HOG USING WAY TOO MUCH MEMORY TO RUN IT.
MAKING IT SLOWER THAN THE XP RIGHT OFF THE BAT.

NO LIE IT TOOK ME 48 HOURS JUST TO "SCAN" A FILE WITH VISTA THAT TOOK WINDOWS XP ONLY 8 HOURS. KEEP IN MIND BOTH LAPTOPS HAVE 2 GIGS OF RAM.

VISTA IS VERY CONFUSING.

TO GET TO CONTROL PANEL ICONS IN VISTA, IT TAKES 3 TIMES AS LONG AS XP HAVING TO CLICK THROUGH SO MANY PAGES TO GET TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND TIME CONSUMING.

EVERY PROGRAM I INSTALLED HAD TO BE MADE COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS XP.
(IT WAS NOT FUN AT ALL)

I GOT ENDLESS SECURITY AND OTHER WARNING POP UPS UNTIL I DISABLED UAC.

THERE ARE ALMOST NO SOUND OPTIONS AND CHOICES IN VISTA. (AND WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER OPTIONS)

THERE ARE MANY OTHER BAD THINGS I COULD POST ABOUT VISTA BUT LONG POSTS DON'T GET READ.

I HAVE SEEN NO BENEFITS AT ALL FROM VISTA, ONLY HEADACHE AND A MAJOR WASTE OF TIME.

TRUST ME WHEN I SAY, THE WORLD IS NOT READY FOR VISTA AND VISTA IS NOT READY FOR THE WORLD.

NEXT TIME YOU BUY A BRAND NEW COMPUTER, INSIST IT HAS WINDOWS XP.
JUST DO NOT BUY IT WITH VISTA UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO WIPE IT CLEAN AND USE WINDOWS XP, PROVIDING IT IS ABLE TO EVEN RUN XP.

LONG LIVE WINDOWS XP AND LONG LIVE THE COMPUTERS ABLE TO RUN IT!!!!

So, i bought an HP with this new Vista that the guy at Best Buy told me is the newest and greatest bla bla bla. I was thinking, how much different can it be..

So I brought it home and tried to install my 2006 Norton Antivirus Software, guess what...NOT COMPATIBLE...

So that was it, i did some searching online about Vista, talked to some friends (techie) of mine and decided fuck this, i'm bringing this shit back and getting a MAC.

So that I did, i got the sexiest white MacBook and was incredibly happy with all of it's functions, it's easy navigation etc. I loved it!

So being that I knew I had to start a new job that would require Microsoft Office, I had to decide whether I was going to have to partion and get Windows so I could install office OR if i should get office for MAC.

I decided that I wanted nothing to do with Windows anymore so I would buy Mac Office for my new sexy Mac.

Turns out when I went to work, all the CDs that i needed to analalyze are in in MS Access...

Screwed again LOL!!! MAC doesn't support Access in their office suite.

I was thinking, I had a few options.

1) I could open the file on my pc, export it to Excel and email it back to my MAC
2) Partion my Mac and put Windows on it and have to keep flip back and forth and not having tech support to help if i have problems, have another job having to figure it all out by myself while i have a full time job already where i wouldn't hvae time to try and worry about ...long rant, sorry about that...
3) Go back to Windows Shitsta

So, I did the latter. With great sadness, returned my MAC.

That's my story, if you don't need a PC, go MAC. It will be the best decision you make and you will ease yourself of so much frustration it's unspeakable.

Go MAC.

So being the fact that is the main part of my job analyzing data that

Open Office is the answer to MS access DataBase compatibility on Mac and Linux. I really don't feel that I can honestly comment on the official release of vista because I have only Installed RC1 And RC2, However I was not impressed at all. I have three computers that I use daily. Computer 1 and 2 are AMD bassed systems with 2+ghz cpu's and the 3rd is an Ibook. Both pcs have Ubuntu Linux and windows. The primary has win2k and the other Win dows XP Pro. I get most of my work done on the 2k box and the ibook with no problems or thought of the OS. I use Firefox so the idea of IE 7 not sporting Win2k really is no concern of mine so I can't condone buying an upgrade. In my opinion the newer the version of windows the more effort you need to put into maintenance, upgrades, and cleaning. So I find myself using less and less windows specific apps and using Linux and Mac OS X more to get my work done. At the end of the day I am saving more Time and Money using software like open office. I am Doing More With Less

New dell XPS 410/9200
4g ram
320g HD and VISTA!! It SUCKS! I will say this, it is a stand alone OS. That's because NOTHING will work with it. Dell gave me a bunch of free stuff like (HDTV tuner extended warranty, etc) just so I would not return this POS. Don't get me wrong the comp. is great but the OS wrecks it. I use this for work and it's killing me. Quick books won't work (I even upgraded to 2007) they said that would work, wrong the PDF converter will not load. I can't print the way I want only basic functions work HP says 5 months for software. I can not send or receive faxes, my dig camera will not work, ipod won't work, the list just goes on. Lucky I have 2 backup computers or i would be out of business

just bought a vaio with vista business pre-installed. honestly, it does suck.

even the simplest navigations - like finding stuff in folders - requires wading through gobs of counter-intuitive interface. AVI files don't run. There's conflicts with all new wireless routers - so 802.11 is totally unpredictable.

I'm actually amazed.

I bought a new HP s7700n with Windows Vista. None of my applications worked properly, even the new printer software would not load. DO NOT UPGRADE if you have XP. I wiped it out, HP sent me XP drivers for it so it would work with XP. Even HP knows Vista is crap. Bill Gates aren't you rich enough??? To charge people that kind of money for a operating sytems that is not compatable with most software is criminal. Again DO NOT UPGRADE. If you have a new computer with Vista, good luck and I hope you get many updates to fix it.

I just bought an new HP laptop with Vista and the fact that I can't even give it away to my kids is proof-positive that Vista's a piece of junk. My oldest three rejected it outright. anybody thinking of getting vista.. DON'T. Get an Intel iMac instead. I did, and it pisses all over Vista and XP. Plus it runs all your windows apps with a nice program called crossover, so you don't need to use windows again, and has all the latest games, with more to come now they use intel chips. or you could dual boot to xp if you want to. for those that don't like Lynux, Mac os X is not the same.

Anonymous said...

To uninstall Vista you can do a number of things. If your xp disk is useless to uninstall vista, just get any other installation OS cd. Download just about any linux distro or a simple program like "partition magic", then change your bios to boot from cd and format your drive. Put in XP disk and you are on your way. Probably after a couple of days of downloading all the "service packs" for your xp you will be in business again. Then use that linux distro disk again and make a dual boot. Free yourself! Start simple

I bought the Vista Upgrade because I was interested in the new designs and aero effects.

I really like the new look and style to it - however there are some drawbacks as mentioned..

The "Allow/Dont Allow" is annoying, however - this can be disabled in about 20 seconds with the click of a button (if you can find it).

I would say I would definitely prefer Vista over XP with one exception (which is big to me)...

I cant play mp3's!! I have some burned cds, and music files, but with MS's new DRM they locked down the operating system to not play any mp3's or videos that havnt been digitally signed...

Now I have to boot up my old 2001 machine to act as my music machine since I cant play anything in Vista!

I've spent at least 1-2 hours searching for a solution/crack for it - and no real luck.

I'd say if you dont care much for downloading music, and you want to disable the allow/dont allow feature - then Vista may be for you.

If you're into downloading music or making audio files that arnt digitally signed... watch out.

There may never be a perfect OS....

One that allows you to play the games you want (here is where Mac and Linux fail)
Burn the music you want (all without online commercials)
Surf anywhere you want (without leaving an unknown trail of digital bread crumbs like Hansel and Gretel)
And be able to withstand a minor failure of ONE program without the whole damn thing going belly up (Microsoft I can't stand you)
AND if its gonna fail just do it dont ask me if I would like to close the program. Would I?? HELL NO I dont want to close the program I want the program to WORK!!!
Just shut the hell down and an element of surprise to otherwise stressful day its more honest.

Rant over...

I haven't used Vista yet. So I have no firsthand experience to recount. However, one thing is certain: Every new version of MS OS sucks. There are hardware compatibility problems, bad device drivers or no drivers at all, and the OS is buggy as Hell. Let's face it, the final Beta testers are the public who buy the first "finished" product, but the entire software industry uses that paradigm. So screw them all, with M$ at the top of the list.

The truth is, new MS OSes aren't worth crap until at least the first service pack. Each new OS (or OS version) gets progressively more bloated needing more RAM and more CPU power. Vista appears to have taken this bloat to a whole new level. Add to all that, one needs to learn the user interface all over again. I don't know about everyone else, but I have much better things to do than re-learn what I already know. The end result is a lot disgruntled users.
I used to know Linux fairly well, but I got damned tired of it taking a week to install a new device or a n application upgrade because the application doesn't install just right from distro A to distro B, and having to learn about anywhere from 5 to 10 file location for parts of the same application is INSANE. I actually said, "Thank God for Microsoft." Now I say, it's time to go back to Linux.

i tried vista for a little while at staples and i can without doubt say it's the crappiest thing that ever came out of Micro$oft! it's so damned bloated and hogs every resource you have, it's incompatible with so much, it takes forever to find out how to change settings... the list goes on and on.... It's noviceware that is actually HARDER, NOT EASIER to use!

BTW this page is ranked #4 on google for "vista sucks"

Ok, enough, you folks are just way out of line on MS. Especially when you compare Vista with 98ME.

Come on, you know 98ME was waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Vista. Vista just plain sucks, and it will still suck even if they release 5 service packs for it.

1 year after: Vista still sucks!

More than 10 years ago I had OS/2 on my PC's at work and home. That was a fine solution for development. Running Windows NT as dual boot option allowed compilation for the WIN32 platform too.

Only a few weeks ago I had to change my main OS from NT over to XP. Why?
YOU CAN'T GET A DAMNED FLASH-PLAYER PLUGIN RUNNING ON NT ANY MORE !!!

With multi-boot I used XP only for video processing. So far XP runs quite stable now and what I'm really missing from NT is the old NT-Explorer which has degraded since then. On Vista it's even more degraded.

MS can't even manage to get the simplest things done. An example? If you install some programm, you'll find a folder in the Start-menu. That works. When you de-install again the folder still shows up. Vista says "The folder is inaccessible" or sth. like that, but it can take quite a long time until the folder won't show up again. Why??? Perhaps all the MS-developers were too busy in creating fucking effects to please little children.

I hope SP1 will come soon and the next Vista-release will ask during installation.

User mode:

o I am a child and want visual effect no matter how long they may take

o I have a brain, I need to work with my computer

Windows users have been disrespected for years with a buggy, unfriendly O/S. Does it really surprise anyone that Microsoft, which is a marketing company (NOT a real software company) unleashed this aweful product that will go down in infamy as

Windows DIS YA?

Thank God, that I found a WEBSITE THAT ACTUALLY, goes against, the asta-la-vista OS that made BILL GATES RETIRE...LOL [is he retiring?] I hope so, anyway, technology is moving to fast right now and who in hell can afford to buy 1000 video cards etc...to run AERO effects stolen from a private software developer??? If you have a life, and indeed, you do...YOU cannot upgrade to Vista, for at least, 1-2 years, I mean, come on, Xp runs so smooth, looks, smooth, Ive tried Vista at my old computer tech job, and believe me i was like, this shit is SO CONFUSING,they changed everything, thats all i remember from JUNE 2006, anyway, I was praying for a blog like this, i agree with VISTA is a VIRUS...WINDOWS VIRUS EDITION. ITS ALL OVER FOR BILLY.

Yeah, LOL windows ''V'' is a JOKE...

Hey I'll make it real simple, you install VISTA, then you can say ASTA LA VISTA to your computer...

What the heck are you people talking about? Is this basically just a website advertising MAC?? I've had Vista for for about 6 weeks now, and have had VERY little trouble. Only typical stuff that was easily worked out. Maybe my comp is just fast enough I don't notice the quirks you're talking about, I don't know, whatever! You guys just seem to be a bunch of big-talking losers, no offense, of course! Give it a real chance, you might be surprised.

I removed VISTA the day I got it. What a nightmare!!!!!!

I have been using NT4 for the last nine years on an old Pentium 133MHz processor with a total of 8.5 Gbytes of disk space and 128 Mbytes of memory. It took about 2 minutes to boot up, including establishing SANDISK connections to my SUN blade workstation. Never had a problem. I would NIKEnet (for those of you in the current generation this means transferring your data to a 3.5 inch floppy and carrying it to the other computer) the work I did on my home systems to my work computer. I did the bulk of my work on my old clunker and only used the SUN blade for schematic capture, layout, design archiving, and simulation. FPGA synthesis, office tasks, scheduling, EMAIL, and editing were all done on my old Pentium, no problem. I had to ( and still need to) run both 16 and 32 bi applications (I still have applications frome DOS 3.0 that have to run).

Our IS contractor, in the infinite wisdom of an IT contractor, refused to support or update my machine since there was a "one workstation per employee" policy in place. As of February, they booted my PC of the corpoate web becuase it was out of date.

I purchased a HP S7700n system to use as a work computer to substitute for my old computer. I was impressed by the pre-installed VISRA operating system for all of two minutes. Unlike XP on one of my other home compuers which takes ten to fifteen minutes to boot VISTA booted up in less than a minute. Once I got through all the setup and advertising mess, however, my initial impression changed. First of all, if you want to use your computer only for the pre-installed games from Microsoft or your computer vendor, VISTA is fine. If you need to run anything else, forget it.

CYBERARMOR, an application required to run CONTIVITY client will install, but you get the "blue screen of death" if you try to run it or to reboot your computer. Once you have restored you computer (plan on 4 hours) you will find that CONTIVITY will not even load. I admit that I didn't have the guts to try any sixteen bit software, but the desktop and the start menu didn't have any useful software either.

I have spent six weeks trying to downgrade my PC to XP professional so that I can at least use it. I am close, since I have audio and video and dialup access to the web, but I still need to find the XP drivers for the ethernet PHY. Problem is that Microsoft convinced OEM's that VISTA was a good thing and so any new computer you buy will have it pre-installed. OEM support for XP is minimal (I spent 4 weeks trying to find XP drivers for my machine from ASUS from the information given to me by a HP customer service representative. Turns out that my motherboard is an HP design and ASUS is merely a contract equipment manufaturer, hence no drivers; after I spent weeks of downloading huge drivers over dialup).

Just as a note, I developed an overlay operatibg system for a Data General Nova series minicomputer (4 MIPS and 256KB RAM) in the early 1980's that supported 128 users, a 12,000 TPH database, and an Engish language command line interpreter for database querys. I recently developed a event and time driven operating system for a intellectual property of my own design. I might know a thing or two about operating systems.

VISTA absolutely sucks!!! My labtop came with it and now all my old and new games just wont work and patches say they will fix the problems but they dont... I jus wanted to blow off some steam and am denouncing the uselessness of VISTA(SUX!)

Vista sucks! overpriced-i-think-im-cool OS X sucks! Linux nothing bad to say. Windows XP FTW!

Anonymous said...

To say Vista is a rehashed version of Windows XP is giving Vista way too much credit. XP is far better than Vista. On the other hand, to say Vista sucks doesn't quite seem strong enough, either.

I have 2 PC's in my room, just installed Vista on my 2nd PC, 3.1Ghz 512RAM and well, I am installing WinXP back on it as I type this.

Why? well because surprise surprise it resets my router whenever you do anything network related on it, which means all the other things in the house that have internet suffer, (2 other PC's, 3 laptops, Xbox, Wii, etc..)

Windows Vista is like starting dating a new gorgeous blonde with blue eyes, looks like something you want but when all it asks you for its shoes (RAM) and constantly uses your mobile (router crashes) and doesnt really give you any pleasure then why bother going out with her?

I want my fat pookie again (WinXP!) lol

Not only SONY don't permit to have the distribution in the language that u wish, but the oem preinstalled version is full of bullshit, some with known incompatibilty issue... obviously u can take rid of them so easily and MB wasting space on ur disk and registry full of shit are the direct consequence. Prenitalled with also SQL server 2005 for vaio having opportunity to track down every media u use, that OEM is simply not suitable, that's suck, they didnt care of ur privacy and some software (my club vaio) stuck himself without opporuninty to cleanly remove. Switched to XP ohh... for the VGN-SZ4MN/B there are no driver for XP and unfortunatley i have no backup of vista preinstalled (wiped all partitions)... I'm dead, now... Ubunto was the only choice now... DONT BUY A VAIO, LET THEM DIE

I too my chances to get Vista and see if I can say "WOW" after a while. So after three months of use, all I can say is "BOO." Compared to Win XP, Vista feels like Win 98 on a computer that is premium ready for Vista. No point of getting Vista unless you are a spenthrift or just wana show off. Linux is way better than Vista.

OK, I got a new PC with Vista on it yesterday, and today I'm putting XP back on, because after 24 hours of use, I'm going INSANE. It has so many small annoyances that make it into one, big annoyance. Example: the control panel takes time to LOAD, and furthermore, the load indicator at the top (which also doubles as the title bar) changes from grey to green, as it loads. But! It gets to the end of the title bar - and keeps loading (ie: changing t green) through the minimise/maximise/close icons! So it's like "What's that? You thought it was finished loading when the TITLE BAR was green? Haha, sucker! You have to wait 'til minimise/maximise/close are green too!".

ARGH.

Got a HP laptop in May 07, with Vista Premium. I have been a big Microsoft fan. Till now. Vista sucks big time. Its like a big gigantic elephant trying to run like a cheetah. Annoying popups, Explorer keeps crashing after resuming from sleep mode. None of my favorite applications work. They all keep crashing. I am in the process of installing WinXP. Stupid Microsoft. Burn in hell.

Wow. I'm just a regular personal computer user, doing a little work online, until... my sparkly new Vista system goes poof! Just shuts down on me. Turns out it wanted to update itself. In Windows XP, that was REALLY annoying, because the dialog box would pop up in front of whatever you were doing threatening to shut down on you any second if you didn't tell it to wait, and there was never any option to tell it to go the hell away and you would shut down on your own good time thank you.

Now comes Vista! Shiny and better and new! With all kinds of crazy hard work put into it to make it dazzlingly wonderful! So did they finally add the button to let you send the restart notification away for good and shut down on your own good time? Nope. They eliminated the annoyance of the intrusive notification by eliminating the intrusive notification altogether. Now it doesn't ask or alert you to the option; it just shuts down when it feels like it. No bothering with prompts to save your work or anything either.
With all of the smarts that went into this, and all of the resources of the filthy rich company behind it, how is it possible that these guys have so little understanding of the experience of their own user -customers? So fantastically dumb!

Time to sell that MS stock and buy Apple! I've been using MS platform for years and just bought my first mac. I'm convinced if Gates was never born, we would have traveled to Mars and back by now. Windows has taken us back about 20 years. Sorry Gates, your system sucks. I can't even load a XMap 5.0 from Delorme because it is not compatible with Vista although it will run fine on XP. Get your nappy headed hoes back to their desks and conjour up something nice to sell. No instead why don't you just scrap Microsoft shares and buy Apple. At least then Mr. Gates, you would own something worthwhile.

I hate Vista! I got this new laptop and it came preloaded with Vista and it sucks! I found your page on google and had to add a comment.
Vista is SOOOOOOO slow! The program is bloated to the point that even with 2 gigs of ram, it is incredibly frustrating! I spend a LOT of time watching the hard drive indicator light, waiting for something to happen.
Stability is a major problem, too. I find myself having to hit the restart button every 30 to 60 minutes because something is hanging.
And the wireless internet is atrocious. Coming out of standby or hibernate, it loses the internet connection, and the only way to get it back is to AGAIN restart Vista. WTF!!??
So I find myself drinking a lot of coffee and waiting and waiting and waiting.
I've never had a Mac, or a Linux. but I've never been butt-raped either, until I tried Vista. Ouch!

I enjoyed reading all the comments from everyone, so true. Here as some of my gripes..
When Microsoft Marketed vista one of the things they bragged about was connectivity, but have you tried to connect to a Sonicwall VPN using the Windows VPN client? a bit shy of some options like the Phase 1, Phase 2 stuff you need for most real VPN servers. Another Gripe is just how slow it is and the fact that you need the same card that you play Quake 4 and Doom 3 with to display stupid Glass and transparency.. How many freaking versions of Windows do you need.. ? They have Home, Basic, Ultimate,, comon, why not make versions for the level of stupidity.. how about Windows Technologically Challenged or Windows for when your sitting on the toilet. It's not easy finding anything, I've worked with computers for years and it took me 10 minutes to figure out where to even set up a VPN connection. Maybe Bill should stop counting his money and get back in touch with Paul Allen for some ideas

hey guys I think vista woulndn't suck so much if it was Roberto Ibale Jr. Cause Roberto the so called 'playboy of magic' baloon tricks thinks he's the filipino dream but he's 30 years old and lives with his parents in markham because he didn't graduate mcgivney high school. He also drives his dad's mazda protege and the clutch is burned out cause he can't drive standard for 2 shits. You can find himtrying to get in by guestlist with his XL1 camera or STOLEN PD150 Sony camera from International Academy of Design on Friday or saturday nights at any asian club (Tonic, republik, inside etc). He wears a big fat silver chain from the pet store and a black baseball cap backwards to hide his receeding hairline. If you ask him straight up where the film footage is going he won't say anything but he jacks off to it every night while fingering his sister in the basement
